Royal Sydney success for Allendale's grand bull
The Day family's 14-month-old bull Allendale Waterhouse D1 was given the nod after also claiming the junior and grand champion bull broad ribbons. "We've bred one, but never shown and exhibited the big winner," said an elated Graham Day.

The closest the family has previous come was the 2000 Sydney Royal best exhibit, Allendale Musketeer, shown by the now dispersed Elfdale stud, Clarendon, New South Wales, which had paid $58,000 for the bull at the breed's national sale in Dubbo.
South Australian judge Katrina Copping, Cannawigra Poll Hereford stud, Avenue Range, said the tremendously correct bull had overall sire appeal combined with excellent length and carcase characteristics.
Too young for the Dubbo sale this year, the 14-month-old sire, which has put on a hefty 200 kilograms since being put on rations in December, is set for heavy stud use in the Allendale herd, with semen likely to be available for sale.
Allendale's grand outing at Sydney continued in the sale ring, topping the annual Sydney Royal all breeds sale, selling a 10-month-old heifer for $7500.
The Day family have a long tradition of bringing top quality young heifers to Sydney to sell and Allendale Fancy D163 was no exception.
