Welcome back to Mundulla Primary School

NEW ARRIVALS

We welcome 4 new students and one new teacher to the school this year. Our enrolments sit at a healthy 79, with a large entry expected during the second half of the year.

Welcome to Kayla, who completed her transition with us in term 4 last year and who arrives ready and set to go! She joins older brothers Joel and Josh.

We also welcome Elysse, Amber and Jayce. who have moved here from interstate.

Sadly, we also farewell Will, Hattie and Meg, who have transferred to Bordertown School.

I know you will join with staff and students in making our new community members very welcome.

Staffing Update

Welcome back to Joann Packer, who returns to us from leave and will be teaching here in the Year 4/5 class on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

We also have a new teacher, Caroline Kacirek, who has been appointed for 3 ½ days per week and will be here Tuesday through Friday. Caroline has recent teaching experience at Lucindale Area School and, prior to that, was teaching in the Riverland.

Kathy Haynes returns to the Junior Primary class and will be teaching students in Reception and Years 1 and 2. She will also be supporting Leah Rodgers, who returns to our school for another year and will be taking the Year 3 class.

Sue Hill remains with the Year 6/7 class.

Barb Salmon has again increased her time to support students with additional needs, in addition to her usual role of library assistant, first aid and admin support.

Linda Braybrook and Toni Williams also return to us to work with students in each of our 4 classes.

Jenny continues in her role as Finance/Admin officer.

UNITS OF SPECIAL STUDY

Themes for the year will be as follows:

  • Term 1 Biodiversity (International Year theme)
  • Term 2 Australian Inventions
  • Terms 3 & 4 Ancient Civilizations

Student Activities

This year, it is our turn to have the first week of swimming. As has been the case for a number of years, the focus for the sessions is very much water safety and awareness. These are not designed to improve stroke style as would be the case for private lessons or either of the clubs.

As the Bordertown High School’s swimming carnival is scheduled for Monday of Week 2, we will begin swimming on Friday of Week 1 – Parents, please note, all permission and medical forms and medication must be completed, signed and returned to school before any student is allowed to go to swimming.

Please also note that Year 6/7 students will not be attending swimming at this time: instead they have been booked into the Aquatics Centre at Westlakes as part of their week-long Adelaide camp activities.

Fire Bans

I return to parents’ attention the DECS policy around days of Total Fire Ban or Catastrophic Weather Conditions.

If it is a fire ban day in our district, staff and students must remain on site for the day – this means all planned excursions need to be cancelled. It is important for all of us to keep alert for fire ban notices, as we may need to cancel swimming at short notice.

If Catastrophic conditions are forecast, our school will remain open, but school buses will be cancelled. Again, it will be important for all families to monitor the weather forecasts regularly so as to be informed of possible changes to school routine. I will also try to contact affected families in this instance.
