Presenting Biographer Lorraine McLoughlin
In conjunction with the Mount Gambier Public Library, the Riddoch Art Gallery
presents biographer Lorraine McLoughlin, who will give a public talk on Friday the 30th of July, 2010.
McLoughlin celebrates the significant art of Adelaide born artist Barbara Robertson, who first achieved recognition in the 1950’s and was hung twice in the Archibald and Sulman prizes. McLoughlin sets Robertson in her historical and social context and with what was happening in the art world and to women at the time.
However, it is the fine art of Robertson which speaks for itself and there are 60 paintings reproduced in full colour across a range of genres, including portraits and self portraits, still lifes, life studies, social commentary, religious art and concerns for Indigenous Australians. The work is simply stunning and the book that Lorraine McLoughlin has compiled is beautiful.
Lorraine will talk about Barbara’s art, about writing life stories and biographies as well as the self publishing process.
The talk will take place at the Multi Function room of the Mount Gambier Public Library, at 10:30am on Friday 30th July, 2010. Entry is free and those attending have the opportunity to purchase the book at a discounted price.
