Bordertown Races Sunday 7th Feb 2010
Bordertown Race Club today held their Summer Cup meeting, the last for the season. Fields held up well, with 89 acceptances from 103 nominations. Eight races were run with results listed below.
The main race of the day, The Woolshed Inn Hotel Motel/Tatiara Summer Cup with prize money of $10 000 was a great contest between Fraaclase, Da Thong and Mytika over the last 50m, with the winner Da Thong ridden by Justin Potter for Jamie Opperman.
Hot and humid weather prevailed after the recent rain, with racegoers enjoying the new pavilion both for the shade and the bar.
Bordertown Club chairman Martin Miles, said he was pleased the recently overhauled sound system worked perfectly and that the season for Bordertown Club had been one he was very proud of. He stated that, "The Bordertown Committee has worked hard all year to upgrade the existing facilities and to erect the huge pavilion. It was an enormous job to dismantle and move this building from Victoria Park where it had been designated for wrecking, but we decided it was something we could do if we all worked together."
Club photographer Nigel Fuss, representing BorderOnline, agreed, reiterating that he always enjoyed coming to the local races to support such a proactive club.
Limestone Coast Secretary Paul Connell was glowing in his praise of the new pavilion, describing it as an architectural, engineering and teamwork success for the club.
Ross and Valary, who were staffing the trackside ambulance, took a break in the new pavilion, commenting on how the facility was superior to many of larger clubs they have attended.
The Royal Flying Doctors catered in the luncheon room, with tables and seating in air-conditioned comfort.
